There is pressure on the surface, and after turning it on, it’s only worth pressing your ear against it to avoid the unpleasant buzzing sound. It’s good when used with earphones that fit deep into the ear (a headset with a jack microphone is completely fine). The internal structure is quite simple, it includes an LM386 amplifier, a piezo pre-amplifier in front of it, as well as battery and charging control. The microphone uses a d:20mm piezoelectric pickup chip, which is pressed from the back by a piece of foam, and a metal cap is glued to the center of the chip. It does its job surprisingly well, even through thick walls.
